Best of The Best Markets in the World: Shanghai

Some of my most popular videos on YouTube are taken in fabulous flea markets around the world. Below is one taken while walking around Dong Tai Lu in Shanghai. Visit Dongtai Lu for fake “antiques,” fun collectibles and then make your way down Fuxing Road with even more store to the famous Bund.  Shanghai is a vibrant, happening (along with extremely noisy) city and a favorite of mine.

Dongtai Lu Open Market is just a couple of minutes away from a metro station. Seriously bargain with the dealers selling Mao watches, communist-era posters, mah jong bracelets and sets, Hello Kitty paraphernalia, vases, statues, furniture. Too many items to mention.

It can take 30 minutes to cover just one block of street stalls crammed almost on top of each other and that’s without entering any of the shops with overflowing shelves behind them. The neighborhood is still a typical Hutong occupied by people hanging laundry outside windows, sitting on streets and conversing. What fun!
